Rev. Joyce Duffala

joyceRev. Dr. Joyce Duffala believes that our lives are easiest and richest when we live from the awareness of our oneness with Spirit, and that everyone should have spiritual support whenever needed in their daily lives.

It is with joy that she has served as the Assistant Minister at the Center for Spiritual Living, Santa Rosa, since January, 2005, for this position allows her to help make ongoing spiritual support available to our spiritual community and beyond. Her duties include serving as the director of the Licensed Prayer Practitioners, the Heart in Hand Spiritual Care Ministry (providing hospital and home visits, and Grief and Loss Support), the Telephone Prayer Ministry, and the midweek spiritual tune-up known as the Wednesday Evening Service. She also enjoys opportunities to speak at services, teach in the Education Ministry and at the Holmes Institute, and offer service in the Music Ministry.

Rev. Joyce has been a member of the Center for Spiritual Living, Santa Rosa since 1996, and became licensed as a Practitioner in 2000. She pursued ministerial studies at the Holmes Institute, receiving an M.A. in Consciousness Studies in June 2004. Rev. Joyce also holds a B.A. in music (Oberlin College), an M.A. in English/Teaching English as a Foreign Language (San Francisco State), and a Doctorate in Multicultural Education (University of San Francisco).

Prior to ministry, two decades of Rev. Joyce’s professional career were dedicated to teaching interpersonal communication and teacher training courses in the US and abroad, in universities and in corporate venues. She is a founder of a non-profit educational organization (The American Working Theater) and a consulting business (Corporate Scenes).

Rev. Joyce has been married to Rev. Kim Kaiser since 1981. They have one daughter, Ariana Kaiser, an actress who resides in southern California. Formative experiences in Rev. Joyce’s life include serving in the Peace Corps in Uganda and Ethiopia, living with the San Francisco Zen Center community (introduced to her by husband-to-be Kim Kaiser), and providing choral classes for incarcerated women.

Rev. Joyce is co-author, with Rev. Dr. Edward Viljoen, of Seeing Good at Work: 52 Weekly Steps to Transform Your Workplace Experience (Science of Mind Publishing, 2004) and The Five Pillars of Spiritual Practice (2009). They have also collaborated on an audio CD entitled Rise in Joy, Sleep in Peace: Affirmative Words to Begin and End Your Day (Center for Spiritual Living, Santa Rosa, 2009).

Rev. Joyce is committed to making available the healing and transformative power of the Science of Mind philosophy. She holds the vision for the Center for Spiritual Living of increased individual inclusion and empowerment, and collective reaching out to new populations. Dedicated to the Global Heart vision of a world that works for everyone, Rev. Joyce’s ongoing prayer is that we always know ourselves to be agents of blessing and healing for ourselves, for each other, and for the planet.
